Tālofa lava,
Last week was Samoan Language Week and we were especially fortunate as Miss Hewitt lead our school with a week of exciting new learning opportunities with the help and support of our Samoan tamaiti a’oga and their āiga. We learnt so many new things about the language and culture of Samoa – it was a fabulous week which ended in a celebration assembly on Aso Faraile. Many of us were inspired and are eager to learn more! A reminder that you can learn something new at any age!
Next week our Senior Hub is off to Whanganui for a visit to the awesome Whanganui Museum, followed by a walk along the river to spot places of significance related to our Tutaeporoporo pūrakau and ending up at the infamous Kowhai Park. Huge thanks to Mrs McDowell for organising this, we can’t wait to hear all about it.
Bulls School are hosting the Kāhui Ako Cultural Festival this year and our kapahaka roopu are busy practising.
The end of term presents us with another opportunity to celebrate with our whānau, with an end of term concert. There will be a flyer with more information in the next newsletter.
The remainder of this term is turning out to be super busy – so keep an eye on the calendar of events to keep yourself up to date.
Finally, with regards to the attendance data I shared last time, I will be spending the next few weeks following this up. If your child has absences of between about 10-15% you will receive an email to ensure you are aware of this. If the absense is higher I will give you a call to discuss how we can work together to improve this. Even high, justified absences can impact our children’s academic progress. Attendance information will form part of our action plan as we support whānau to overcome barriers to attending school. Ultimately we are seeking to work as a team to impact positively on attendance because we know this can sneak up on you, often without you even realising.
Everyday matters.
