Gosh – we are almost there! This afternoon we have our Sports and Cultural Prizegiving and tonight we have our Formal Prizegiving – both very important events on our annual calendars.
Today we will celebrate together but not everyone will take away a prize or a certificate. Awards aren’t what defines you, it is your effort and growth that matters most. If the teachers could, they would hand out awards to everyone but that isn’t how this works. Building character and resilience comes not from taking the stage but from facing challenges and learning from setbacks. We see you all!
Last week we had our traditional Community Concert. I inherited this tradition when I first began teaching here quite a few years ago. We have modified it over the years to suit our audience and community but it remains a highlight. We all loved the opportunity to celebrate different cultures through dance and song.
We appreciate everything our whānau and hāpori do for us and on Tuesday we put on a lovely big spread to thank anyone who could come along – which, at this time of year, was a small but intimate group! That said, it doesn’t mean we aren’t grateful and we fully understand how tricky it can be to attend school events at this time. Please know that we appreciate you all!
Then we were very excited to have a crew from Ohakea drop in on our field yesterday in an Airforce Helicopter! It was such a treat and the students got to have an information and question session and a quick look through before we gathered to watch it fly off again.
As we head off into what is commonly described as the ‘silly season’ remember to stay safe and focus on what matters. Spending time with whānau and friends.
